Eye Problems with Powder Coatings
Q. Could you tell me what eye problems occur from using powder paints? I have
read that serious eye problems could occur. What time scale would it
take for a problem to come to the surface? I have sprayed powder paints
on and off since 1978-2000 and I have problems in both eyes. If you could
tell me what problems may occur because of the powder?
Thanks for your email. I'm sorry to hear that you are having eye problems,
but I have never heard of this being caused by powder coatings, although I'm
not denying that it is possible.
If your doctor or better still an othalmologist doesn't know what the cause
is, then I suggest that you consult with an industrial hygienist or toxicologist.
These professionals should know about the potential risks of being exposed to
fine powders and dusts, and perhaps they might have specific information on
powder coatings. Have you looked at the MSDS for the powders that you are using?
They should provide information on all health effects that one can expect from
these products.
If you do find out something useful on this topic can you please send me another
email so that I can save it for other readers.
In the meantime, I hope you are able to resolve your problem.
Best wishes,
Ron Joseph
