Enamel Paint

Q. We are looking to paint piping systems at an LNG plant using enamel paint thinned with paint thinner or mineral spirits via an airless sprayer. I am looking to see if there are regulations supporting or prohibiting this operation. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

A. The only regulations that I can think of would relate to air quality. You should call your local air pollution agency and inquire if they have regulations for painting operations. If so, you will need to see if, by adding thinners to the paint, you will exceed the VOC limits of the paint you intend to use. The VOC content of your current paint is listed on the MSDS.
