Concrete Paints & Coatings

Q. Can you tell me where I can find a graph that shows how various concrete coatings compare to another i.e. urethanes, epoxy, acrylic using the ASTM Taberabrasion test #D4060. We sell and install floor coatings and need a way to show / educate our customers regarding an important specification, otherwise they just look at price

A. I don't know of any graphs that are readily available, however that does not mean that you can not create one to fit your needs. To set up a competitive graph that rates the properties of various coatings technologies, I would start by visiting local paint stores to request current copies of the technical data sheets on the products that they would recommend. Keep in mind that you are looking for Technical Data Sheets (TDS), and not the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

You should find all types of technical data, including ASTM test reports. Next are the web sites for the major coatings manufacturers, compile, arrange, and maintain all of the data you have accumulated, and in no time at all YOU will be the expert source of information for your company.
