Number of Paint Coatings

Q. What is the standard industry technique to determine how many layers of coating is present in a sample. Is the scanning electron microscope required or other devices?

A. A simple stereoscopic microscope of 7x - 64x magnification will do the trick. you might also be able to see the layers using a strong magnifying glass. However, you must be able to look at the layers in cross-section.
