About Polyurethanes

Q. How can I improve the polyurethane topcoat adhedsion and reduce the gloss to 30%?

A. We assume the polyhurethane has been applied to a surface area. Now we find the need to improve the adhesion of the polyurethane to the surface area.

With a polyurethane topcoat, the adhesion can be improved through the choice of sealer material. A means of gloss reduction can be accomplished by rubbing the surface with a course abrasive, using 2/0 steel rather than 4/0 steel wool. Or the addition of an appropriate flattening or dulling material which is mixed into the urethane product.

Tom Burke
