CARC Adhesion Test Perf MIL-DTL-53072

Q. We have applied about 50 microns thick zinc-rich primer (A-A-59745) on steel
substrate as pretreatment before CARC application per MIL-DTL-53072.

MIL-DTL-53072 para. 4.2.3.6.1 requires adhesion test per ASTM D3359 per method B regardless of the thickness of the paint system although the test standard ASTM D3359 requires test per method A if the coating thickness exceeds 125 microns. Our coupon has total thickness of 210-220 microns. Which test should be performed in this case? Could you please advise?

A. In my opinion you are better off using Method A, the "X" test.

Regards,

Ron Joseph
