Powder Coating Alternatives for CARC

Q: Up to two years ago there were no powdercoat alterantives to CARC paints. Has that changed? If it has and there is a comnmericaly available powder that meets the specification who is the supplier? If not what seesm to be the drawbacks of getting one approved?

A: According to John Escarsega of the Army's Research Labs at Aberdeen Proving Grounds powder primers are the only approved alternatives for CARC primers.  Currently, no powder formulations have passed the topcoat requirements. The primary hurdles are low gloss (one unit or less at 60 degrees and 3.5 units or less at 85 degrees), UV durability and live chemical agent resistance.
