Heat Reflective Paint

Q. Is there an additive I can add to a latex based paint to make it reflect sun and prevent heat build up on a propane tank?

A. I'm not aware of any additive that you can mix into the paint. However, there are paints that have high reflectivity that will prevent heat buildup of the substrate. White paints are the most effective, but there are some colored roof paints that contain pigments and additives that will reflect away much of the incident light. For more information go to Plasticolors www.plasticolors.com, and particularly http://www.plasticolorsinc.com/reflective_technology.php?force_content=reflective_technology.htm&temp_pass=true

Best wishes,
