MIL Specification Substitutions

Q. The White (Color 17825)Polyurethane enamel per Mil-C-8328 is discontinued. Can I use the white (Color 17925) instead?

A. Permission for change to another color must come from your customer. I don't have a sample of either #17825 or #17925, and so cannot tell you how close these two colors are to one another. Regardless, if the first color has been discontinued, you must get permission to make a substitution. While still on the subject, have you checked MIL-C-83286 to see what colors have been qualified? To the best of my knowledge you can only use colors that are applicable to this specification.
