General Provisions (40CFR465.01 -- 40CFR465.04)
Applicability (40CFR465.01)
Coil coating or canmaking facilities that discharge pollutants to waters
of the United States or to a publicly
owned treatment works (POTW), must comply with the requirements of
this part.
Monitoring and reporting requirements (40CFR465.03)
Facilities covered by Part 465 have special monitoring requirements,
including a specified test method to determine oil and grease concentrations
in wastewater samples and a written notification requirement for any canmaking
facility that uses an aluminum alloy containing less than 1.0% manganese.
Subpart A -- Steel Basis Material subcategory (40CFR465.10 -- 40CFR465.15)

are covered in this subpart.
Effluent limitations based on the best practicable control technology
currently available (40CFR465.11)
Existing dischargers must meet both daily maximum and monthly average
effluent concentrations, that are based on the best practicable control
technology (BPT) currently available, for the following constituents: chromium,
cyanide, zinc, iron, oil & grease, total suspended solids (TSS), and
pH.
Effluent limitations based on the use of the best available technology
economically achievable (40CFR465.12)
Existing dischargers must meet both daily maximum and maximum monthly
average effluent concentrations, that are based on the best available technology
economically achievable (BAT), for the following constituents: chromium,
cyanide, zinc, and iron.
New source performance standards (40CFR465.13)
New point source discharges must meet more stringent daily maximum
and monthly average effluent concentrations by using the best practicable
control technology (BPT) currently available for the following constituents: chromium, cyanide, zinc, iron, oil and grease, total suspended solids (TSS),
and pH.
Pretreatment standards for existing sources (40CFR465.14)
Existing dischargers to a POTW must meet both daily maximum and monthly
average effluent concentrations for the following constituents: chromium,
cyanide, and zinc.
Pretreatment standards for new sources (40CFR465.15)
New dischargers to a POTW must meet both daily maximum and maximum
monthly average effluent concentrations for the following constituents:
chromium, cyanide, and zinc.
Subpart B -- Galvanized Basis Material Subcategory (40CFR465.20 --
40CFR465.25)

Wastewater discharges from coil coating of galvanized basis material
coils are covered under this subpart.
Effluent limitations representing the degree of effluent reduction
attainable by the application of the best practicable control technology
currently available (40CFR465.21)
Existing dischargers must meet both daily maximum and maximum monthly
average effluent concentrations, that are based on the best practicable
control technology (BPT) currently available, for the following constituents:
chromium, copper, cyanide, zinc, iron, oil & grease, total suspended
solids (TSS), and pH.
Effluent limitations based on the use of the best available technology

Existing dischargers must meet both daily maximum and maximum monthly
average effluent concentrations, that are based on the best available technology
