Painting an Acrylic Roof Coating Over Asphaltic Patches

Q: I need your advice for painting an acrylic roof coating over asphaltic patches.

A: To the best of my knowledge, this can be done.  However, if you still get bleeding of the asphaltic roof coating through the acrylic, you might want to first apply a waterborne coating that contains aluminum or micaceous iron oxide pigments.  Both of these pigments act as sealers that prevent the bleeding of tar type products.   I suggest that you visit www.carboline.com, www.ppg.com and other sites to see if they can offer you such as bleed-resistant coating.

Regards,

Ron Joseph
