Q. Can a Old Hot dip galvanised Tower errected near Sea Coast be refurbishes as follows

  1. Use Paint remover and remove all old coatings and rust etc
  2. Fresh water wash down
  3. Apply full Coat Cold Galvanising paint ( Zinc Rich paint say 93% Zinc )over all bare GI and corrrosion cleaned Mild steel areas.
  4. Apply a Polyamide cured epoxy primer X 50 Microns DFT
  5. Apply a coat of Modifed Acrylic Catng as Intermediate X 50 Micros DFT
  6. Apply 2 coats of Modified Acrylic Finish Coats ( 35 Micrond DFT X 2 Coats )

Please advise

The system you propose sounds good to me, but its success will depend on how well you prepare the substrate. If you do a good job removing the old paint, and especially ALL rust (iron oxide) and white zinc oxide (corroded galvanizing) that has already formed, you can expect excellent performance of the coating system.

Best wishes,

Ron Joseph
