Alkyd over CARC

Q. Can you paint Alkyd over CARC? Any special primer or prep work?

A. Alkyd coatings will work when applied over CARC. There are steps required in the preparation to assure good inter coat adhesion. We assume the alkyd paint is of good quality and not a KMart aerosol.

First clean any oil and grease soils with a heavy duty detergent extend the cleaning the remaining surface. Check the CARC surface for any irregularities, such as paint run and over spray.

Sand those areas with the appropriate sanding paper, wipe clean to remove dust. Follow up with a fresh coat of alkyd paint.

Best wishes,

Tom Burk
