Restoration Help

Q. I have aquired and 80 corvette that was painted in 82 with Imron (so I am told), it has sat outside for the last 15 years and has faded some (not as bad as one would think) and need to know what to do to get some luster and glo back on it. It was coverd with mold and dust. Zero body damage and no dings etc. Is there a chance we can save the paint?

A. Imron is a great, well recognized automotive paint for automotive refinishing. Before you have the car repainted, I would take it to a car wash facility in your local area and have them completely buff and polish the exterior surfaces. There is a Classic Carwash in my area that does a wonderful job detailing cars. If, after you have taken your Corvette for detailing, it still does not meet your expectations, you can consider having a body shop apply one or two coats of Imron clear coat over the fade finish. Clearly, the body shop will first need to prep the vehicle for repainting.

Ron Joseph
