Spray Gun Application Techniques

Q: I came across an article that was explaining auto refinishing spray techniques. They mentioned a couple of terms I've never heard of. The said "Do not heel or toe" in regards to spray gun angle. Would you please provide me with the definition of "heeling and toeing."

Thanks so much for your time!

A: I have not heard of "heel" and "toe" with regard to spray guns, but I'm sure what is being referred to is arching of your wrist or arm when you get to the end of your stroke (or pass). In other words, you should keep your wrist perpendicular to the object at all times and should not angle the gun to the left of right when you get to either end of your reach.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ron Joseph
